Financial Aid Checklist

As you explore financial aid options, it is a good idea to keep copies of all correspondence and forms.
  • Visit the websites of each college in which you are interested. Find and take note of the college’s due dates for financial aid, along with any specific application instructions. Contact each college's financial aid office if you have questions.
  • File parent and student federal income tax forms as soon as possible (preferably in January) so there is accurate data to use for financial aid forms.
  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). See below for more info. For assistance filling this out, watch for information about MHS's FAFSA Lab and/or area College Goal Sunday events. Make sure you file the FAFSA by the state deadline. More information: StudentAid.gov. NOTE: FAFSA filing is required for seniors who are 21st Century Scholars, even if they don't plan to attend college immediately.
  • Read all financial aid notification and bursar notification letters from colleges carefully. Respond to any requests for additional information quickly, completely, and accurately.
