Financial Aid Checklist
As you explore financial aid options, it is a good idea to keep copies of all correspondence and forms.
- Visit the websites of each college in which you are interested. Find and take note of the college’s due dates for financial aid, along with any specific application instructions. Contact each college's financial aid office if you have questions.
- File parent and student federal income tax forms as soon as possible (preferably in January) so there is accurate data to use for financial aid forms.
- Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). See below for more info. For assistance filling this out, watch for information about MHS's FAFSA Lab and/or area College Goal Sunday events. Make sure you file the FAFSA by the state deadline. More information: StudentAid.gov. NOTE: FAFSA filing is required for seniors who are 21st Century Scholars, even if they don't plan to attend college immediately.
- Read all financial aid notification and bursar notification letters from colleges carefully. Respond to any requests for additional information quickly, completely, and accurately.

- 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship: Up to $1,000 for costs beyond tuition, such as fees, books, exam registration, conferences, and other opportunities. Includes letters of recommendation and essay explaining need. Application opens annually on Dec. 1; application deadline is the following April 1. Click here for more information.
- 1,000 Dreams Fund Twitch BroadcastHER Grant: Up to $2,000 awarded each semester; for females who are a Twitch Affiliated or Partnered Broadcaster. Financial assistance to help with expenses such as travel to gaming conventions, educational conferences, hardware upgrades, instructional programs related to creative or artistic pursuits. - 1,000 Dreams Fund / HARMAN New Face of Tech Scholarship Program: Program aims to help fund and fuel the dreams of talented young women in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Click here for more information.
- AABE Scholars: Aim of this scholarship is to help increase the number of African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans in energy-related fields. Indiana AABE chapter will award three $1,000 scholarships. Top winner will compete for $3,000 regional award, and winners advance to compete for a $5,000 national award. - ABC Humane Wildlife Academic Scholarship - Women in STEM: $1,000 award for women who plan to study the fields of science (excluding social sciences i.e. economics), engineering, mathematics, or technology. To be used for tuition or other education-related expenses. Deadline: July 1. Click here for more information.
- Abbot & Fenner Scholarship: $1,000 available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. Deadline: June 10, 2025. Click here for more information.
- AES Scholarship: $500 available future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. Deadline: Oct. 8. Click here for more information.
- AIGA Worldstudio Scholarship: Up to $5,000 or minority and economically disadvantaged students studying art and art design disciplines. Criteria include talent, financial need, commitment to giving back to the larger community through their work, minimum 2.0 GPA. Application opens in February. Deadline is in April. - Asian American Journalists Association scholarships: Various awards. Click here for more information.
- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority / Omicron Phi Omega Chapter Scholarship: For high school seniors in Marion and Kokomo. Includes recommendation and essay requirements. Deadline is in April. Click here for more information.
- Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship: 100 $40,000 scholarships awarded to computer science students, also includes paid summer internships at Amazon; criteria include GPA and financial need. Deadline is in January. Click here for more information.
- American Addiction Centers' Behavioral Health Scholarships: $10,000 in scholarships awarded to students enrolled in college programs in the area of behavioral health (including social work, psychology, nursing, counseling, marriage and family therapy, substance abuse or mental health training programs); (click here).
- American Chemical Society Scholars Program: Renewable scholarship between $1,000 and $5,000 per academic year for students of Hispanic/Latinx, American Indiana or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander, or African-American/Black heritage, or a mix of any of the above, who intend to major in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical technology, or another chemistry-related science and plan to pursue a career in a chemistry-related science. - American Indian College Fund's Full Circle & Tribal College Scholarships: For Native American U.S. citizens who are a member or descendant of a state or federally recognized tribe. Click here for more information.
- American Indian Education Fund Scholarship: College and vocational scholarships for students enrolled with their tribe or who can demonstrated lineage. Includes essay requirement. Click here for more information. (Website includes several good resources beyond scholarship, too.)
- American Meteorological Society Freshman Scholarship: To encourage study in the atmospheric and related sciences. $5,000 over two years. Deadline: March 14, 2025. Click here for more information and to apply.
- American Meteorological Society Scholarship for Underserved Communities: For students who have been traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, especially Hispanic, Native American, and Black/African American students, who plan to pursue careers in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. $6,000 over two years. - Ann Reinking Scholarship: $5,000 (taxable) and mentorship, industry connections; awarded annually to a young dancer moving to NYC to pursue a dance and/or theatrical career. Criteria include financial need, dance ability; submission includes required videos. Applications open in May. Click here for more information.
- Army ROTC Scholarship: Tuition and stipend. Criteria includes merit and academics. Includes commitment to military service. Deadline: Must start application by March 4, 2025, and complete application by March 17, 2025. Click here for more information, or talk with the MHS JROTC instructors.
- American Theatre Wing's Andrew Lloyd Webber University Scholarships: Up to $10,000 a year for students planning to study any aspect of theatre in college. Criteria include economic need and exceptional talent, with a focus on populations historically underrepresented in the theatre industry. Click here for more information.
- Army Women's Foundation Scholarship: Awards for community college, certificate programs, and college/university/graduate studies. For women soldiers, past and present, and their descendants. Deadline Jan. 21, 2025. Click here for more information.
- Asian Pacific Fund: Various scholarships that support students with Asian or Pacific Islands ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry. Click here for more information.
- Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholars (APIA) program: Scholarships range from $2,500 one-year awards to $20,000 multi-year awards for students with ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry in countries, territories, or lands in Asia or the Pacific Islands. - Association of American Indian Affairs Scholarships: For students enrolled with their tribe. Click here for more information.
- Automotive Hall of Fame Scholarship: Criteria include minimum 3.0 GPA, financial need. Applications must be postmarked between Feb. 1 and June 30 each year. Click here for more information.
- Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Teachers: Students planning to pursue a career as a physics teacher invited to apply. administered by the American Association of Physics Teachers. Scholarship of up to $2,000 per year. Applications accepted year-round, but deadline for current year consideration is Dec. 1. Click here for more information.
- Beacon Credit Union Scholarship: Eight $1,000 scholarships are available to credit union members and their children. Deadline: Jan. 31. Click here for more information.
- Beekman-Porter Tennis Scholarship: Helps graduating Marion High School tennis players to reach for their dreams. MHSAA scholarship applications open on Jan. 1 and close on March 31. Click here for more information.
- Big Future Scholarships (from the College Board): Complete college readiness steps to be eligible for monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships. Click here for more information.
- BigSun Athletic Organization Scholarship: $500 awarded to student-athlete. Deadline June 19.Click here for more information.
- BMI Composer Awards: For students currently studying music, either in an educational institution or privately. Awards totaling $20,000 given annually for vocal, instrumental, and/or electronic compositions submitted by students of classical music. Click here for more information.
- Bob and Marti Fowler Future Theater Educator Scholarship: $2,000 for an inducted member of the International Thespian Society pursuing a theater education major. Deadline April 1. Click here for more information.
- Bryan Cameron Education Foundation: Full tuition + fees, books, supplies, equipment award. For motivated leaders with a lifelong dedication to the greater good; 3.7 GPA minimum, other criteria include leadership, extracurricular and community involvement. - BHW Scholarship for Women in STEM: $3,000 award for women pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math. Deadline: April 15. Click here for more information.
- Central Michigan University's Leadership Advancement Scholarship: $2,000 per academic year for outstanding students who have distinguished themselves through a record of leadership and service. Click here for more information.
- Co-Alliance Scholarship: $1,000 one-time scholarships available for graduating students considering a career in agriculture. Includes essay. Click here for more information. Deadline March 1, 2025.
- Cobell Scholarship: Merit-based and need-based scholarship for any member of a federally recognized native tribe enrolled in full-time post-secondary study, provided by Indigenous Education Inc. Deadline: March 31. Click here for more information.
- Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship: 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. Click here for more information.
- Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's CHCI Next Opp: Information on various scholarships and resources for students of Latinx heritage. Click here for more information.
- Creative Masonry & Chimney LLC Scholarship: $500 toward books/tuition; for students considering a career in construction, plumbing, carpentry, or other skilled trades. Deadline is Dec. 1 every year. Click here for more information.

- Damon P. Moore Scholarship: $1,000 renewable scholarship for minority students who are dependents of current members of the Indiana State Teachers Association and plan to pursue a teaching certificate. Criteria include academics, leadership in co-curricular activities and community involvement; includes essay. Deadline: March 1. Click here to apply.
- Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund: Need-based scholarship for students who are active in the progressive movement and planning to attend college, university, trade, or technical program. Maximum grant of $10,000 per year. Deadline: April 1. Click here for more information.
- Dell Scholars: $20,000 per year, laptop, textbook credits, and other supports; requires participation in approved college readiness program in your junior and senior year of high school. Application period runs Oct. 1 through Dec. 1. Click here for more information.
- Distinguished Young Women of Grant County Scholarship Program: Scholarship will go to a senior girl based on academics, fitness, talent, interview skills, and self-expression. Winner advances to the state level. Click here for more info.
- DREAM.US Scholarship: Covers tuition and fees up to $14,500 for associate's degree or $29,000 for bachelor's degree study; for highly motived DREAMers with significant unmet financial need. GPA and test scores considered, but emphasis is on demonstrated ability to overcome barriers and challenges DREAMers face every day. Deadline is in February. Click here for more information.
- Dr. Kenny D. Hasija Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship that seeks to support applicants from groups traditionally underrepresented in the theatre industry, such as those who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color. Applicants should be inducted members of the International Thespian Society (Thespians) who are graduating seniors or Thespian alumni who are pursuing undergraduate studies at an accredited college or university, and who plan on a career in any area of the theater, from performing to producing. - Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway: More than $1 million available to help student reach their biggest goals. (Up to $100,000 awarded per scholarship.) Dr. Pepper selects finalists to compete during throw-offs at NCAA conference championship games. Click here for more information.
- Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting (EFWA) scholarships: Awards for Associate's and Bachelor's Degree students. Click here for more information.
- Educational Theatre Association scholarships: various awards open to inducted members of the International Thespian Society. Deadline: April 1. Click here for more information.
- Elks Most Valuable Student scholarship competition: Membership in Elks not required. Criteria include scholarship, leadership, financial need. Top 20 finalists participate in all-expenses-paid Leadership Weekend in Chicago, during which they'll interview with national judges. All 20 finalists get scholarships; these scholarships were $30,000 over four years for the 2024 finalists. In addition, 480 runners-up receive $4,000 scholarships. Click here for more information.
- Equitable Excellence Scholarship: For students who strive to be a force for good in their communities. Deadline is in January. Click here for more information.
- Frontier Technology's Lavon Jordan Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship: $2,500 for students from historically underrepresented populations including, but not limited to minorities, women, persons who identify as LGBTQ+ and persons with disabilities, who will be pursuing a major in a STEM field or related field. - Gates Scholarship: Highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding minority high school seniors from low-income households. Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university. - GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship: $10,000 renewable scholarships for promising young leaders who demonstrate drive, integrity, and citizenship. Application opens in October and closes in January. Click here for more information. .
- Golden Door Scholars: Provides scholarships for DACA students and undocumented students. Click here for more information.
- Great Minds in Stem Scholarship: Merit-based award up to $10,000 for students of Hispanic descent (and/or must demonstrate significant leadership or service within the underserved community) who are pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math. - Hesburgh-Yusco Scholars Program: Merit-based scholarship and leadership development program at the University of Notre Dame; $25,000 per year, along with other enrichment opportunities. Candidates selected by Admissions from entire poole of Restrictive Early Action admitted students; exceptional Regular Decision candidates will also be considered if they submit a complete application by Jan. 1. - Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards: Not a scholarship, but a leadership program for Latino high school seniors who excel in the classroom and community; main pipeline to HHF's system of talent that prepares and positions Latino youth through the award-winning Latinos On Fast Track program. - Hispanic Scholarship Fund: Merit-based scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000. Criteria includes Hispanic heritage, minimum 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale, plan to enroll full-time in accredited 4-year university; emphasis on STEM majors; open to citizens and eligible non-citizens. - Hoosier Scholars, the Fund for Hoosier Excellence: Each Indiana high school can nominate two students (one male, one female). Eligibility includes minority status, intention to attend Indiana college or university, SAT score of at least 1,000 or ACT composite score of at least 22, and at least B grade average. Criteria include leadership and scholarship. Application packets are due in December. 20 nominees named as finalists; two will be awarded $20,000 scholarships, and eight others will be awarded $4,000 scholarships. - Horatio Alger Association Scholarships: Various scholarships available, up to $25,000. Deadlines vary. Click here for more information.
- Hudson & Holland Scholars Program at Indiana University: Scholarship and support program for high achieving underrepresented minorities. Criteria include minimum GPA of 3.2 on 4.0 scale; minimum combined SAT 1150 or ACT 24, record of leadership or active participation in extracurricular or community service activities and commitment to social justice. Must first apply to IU by Nov. 1 priority deadline, and then invited to complete Selected Scholarship Application for eligibility for this and other IU scholarships. - Indiana American Public Works Association Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship renewable for four years. For Indiana high school seniors pursuing a degree in related public works fields such as civil engineering, environmental engineering, public works management, etc. Click here for more information / application.
- Indiana Association for the Gifted Scholarship: Merit-based scholarships; application includes test scores, recommendation letters, and an essay or multi-media presentation. Click here for more information.
- Indiana CPA Society Scholars Program: INCPAS Scholars are high potential (2.5 GPA or higher) minority high school students with an interest in accounting / business; requires attendance in active participation in program in Indianapolis or South Bend. Successful INCPAS Scholars will receive business clothing, meals, limo rides to firms and businesses employing CPAS, academic gift of $500, a CPA mentor, a college accounting student buddy, and a college or scholarship letter of recommendation. - Indiana Farm Bureau Scholarships: 13 district and state awards given to high school seniors and college students who are children of IFB members or student members, and who are pursuing a career in agriculture or agribusiness. Click here for more information.
- Indiana Latino Institute Scholarship Program: $1,000 scholarships; criteria include academic achievement, financial need, community service involvement; preference given to Latino students residing in Indiana who are first-generation college students. - Indiana Mining and Mineral Education Program Scholarship: Six $2,500 scholarships available to graduating Indiana seniors pursuing a career in the aggregates industry (majors such as civil engineering, environmental science, certified welder, diesel mechanic, safety management, and more). Criteria include academics and other school and community involvement. Application includes essay. Click here for more information.
- Indiana Oil and Gas Association Scholarship: For Indiana high school and college students planning to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry. Award based on both academic merit and financial need. Click here for more information. Deadline: March 1 of each year.
- Indiana Sheriffs' Association Scholarship: Renewable scholarship for active affiliate or associate members of the Indiana Sheriff's Association and their dependent children or grandchildren; must be an Indiana resident, attend or plan to attend an Indiana college, and plan to pursue a degree / career in law enforcement. - Indiana Tech Regional Scholarship: For students who attend a high school within certain areas of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan (including the Marion area); $3,000 a year in addition to any academic scholarship; the regional scholarship is non-competitive, meaning any student who is accepted to Indiana Tech and qualifies geographically for this scholarship earns it automatically (though any student attending Indiana Tech on an athletic scholarship is not eligible for the regional scholarship). - Indiana University Alumni Scholarship: Available to children of IU Alumni Association members, staff, and chapter leaders. Student leaders are also eligible to apply. Scholarships can be awarded to students at any IU campus. Criteria include academics and financial need. Applications open Oct. 1 each year; deadline is March 10. - Indiana University - Wells Scholarship: Up to two members of the Class of 2020 can be nominated for this prestigious and selective award. The Wells Scholarship, awarded on the basis of merit, pays the full cost of attendance for four years of undergraduate study at IU - Bloomington, and also provides special educational opportunities and eligibility for a grant to pursue a summer internship, research or service project, creative activity, or other enriching experience. - Indiana Wesleyan University Grant County Resident Scholarship: $4,000 scholarships; only Grant County high school graduates with 2.6 or above GPA eligible. Click here for more information.
- Indiana Wesleyan University - Luther Lee Scholars program: Leadership based full-tuition scholarship cohort for Indiana high-achieving students who come from historically underrepresented demographic groups (racial / ethnic minority, low-income or first-generation college student); click here for more information. Deadline: Jan. 15 (scholarship application, IWU application, and FAFSA filed by Jan. 15).
- Indy Pride Inc. Scholarship: For students at an accredited Indiana college, university, or trade-school who are making significant contributions to the LGBTQ+ community through their academic pursuits. Awarded twice a year. Click here for more information and to apply.
- Intertribal Timber Council: Various scholarships supporting Native American students studying natural resources, forestry, and STEM topics. Click here for more information.
- Isaac Yunhi Lee Memorial Arts Scholarship: $14,000 for students taking the next step in their artistic journey by going to art school. Income guidelines apply. Essay required. Deadline is in April. Click here for more information.
- ISTA Career Scholarship: $1,000 renewable scholarship for dependents of current members of the Indiana State Teachers Association. Criteria includes academics, leadership in co-curricular activities and community involvement; includes essay. Deadline: March 1. Click here to apply.
- ISTA Educator Scholarship: $1,000 renewable scholarship for dependents of current Indiana State Teachers Association who are pursuing a degree / career in education. Criteria include academics, leadership in co-curricular activities and community involvement; essay included. Deadline: March 1. Click here to apply.
- ISTA Foundation District Scholarship: $700 scholarship for children or grandchildren of current members of the Indiana State Teachers Association; applicants must have at least a C average and plan to participate in a formal accredited training program or attend a two- to four-year accredited college. - Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship: Up to $40,000 per year, as well as opportunities for internships, study abroad, and grad school funding. Based on achievement and financial need. Deadline is November. Click here for more information.
- Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Award: Scholarship for minority students with a record of academic excellence, leadership potential and a dedication to community service, and evidence of financial need. Click here for more information.
- James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists Scholarship: Five $2,500 scholarships to college students and five digital cameras to high school students awarded. Click here for more information. Application opens July 15; deadline is Nov. 15.
- Jason Taylor Family Scholarship: Assists graduating Marion High School students in overcoming obstacles to reach for their dreams. MHSAA scholarship applications open on Jan. 1 and close on March 31. Click here for more information.
- John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest: Prizes range from $10,000 for first place to $100 for semifinalists. Essay must describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917. Deadline is in January. Click here for more information.
- Joseph James Morelli Scholars: Empowering students with dyslexia. Click here for more information.
- Justine M. Harrell Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 renewable scholarship for dependents of current members of the Indiana State Teachers Association who are planning to pursue a degree / career in teaching. Criteria includes financial need (must be at or below 200 percent of federal poverty line); academic achievement; leadership in co-curricular activities and community involvement. Includes essay. - Knights of Pythias - Pythian Family Educational Assistance: $1,000 scholarships available to Indiana high school students with GPA of 3.0 or higher who is a member or the spouse, child, or grandchild of a member in good standing of the Knights of Pythias in Indiana; financial need also taken into consideration. - Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship: Full scholarship for tuition and fees at an Indiana college. Nominees are selected by the Community Foundation of Grant County. - Louie's Tux Shop Scholarship Model Search: A 100% local cast will participate in a photo shoot in October, and two students named "Top Models" will receive $1,000.00 college scholarships. A total of 20 students will be participating and will be featured in the spring prom magazine. Ten students chosen by their peers during the online voting period in September and October will receive automatic entries to the photo shoot. Another 10 students will receive special invitations from Louie's Tux Shop and Act ll Modeling Agency to round out the cast with all students having an equal chance at winning the scholarships. - Louis B. Russell Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship for minority students who are dependents of current members of the Indiana State Teachers Association and who are planning to pursue a degree / career in industrial arts, vocational education, or technical preparation at an accredited post-secondary institution. - Midwest Student Exchange Program: NOT a scholarship, but available tuition discounts for out-of-state colleges. Click here for more information. This program gives students a wider range of education options. Nearly 100 colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wisconsin have opened their doors to each others’ citizens by offering reduced tuition rates. All enrollment decisions are made at the discretion of the receiving campus, and the campus may exercise its right to limit participation or set specific admission requirements for MSEP.
- Mississinewa Audobon Club Scholarship: $250 award for students who plan to pursue a career that would involve wildlife, natural resources and/or environmental management or conservation. Apply through the Grant County Community Foundation common scholarship application.
