PSAT (NMSQT) / SAT / ACT

The PSAT is a preparatory test for the SAT and is also the qualifying test to be considered for the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSQT). Juniors who want to be considered for that prestigious scholarship should contact the Guidance Department now for more information.

(Sophomores can also take the PSAT, but only a test taken in your junior year serves as a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.)

See your school counselor for more details.

All juniors and seniors are encouraged to take the SAT. Many colleges use SAT scores as part of their admissions process.

HOW TO REGISTER: Click here to register for the SAT online at the College Board's SAT site. This site includes testing and registration dates, as well as fee information. NOTE: You must upload a photo to the website to be admitted to the test.

FEES: Any student who is eligible for free or reduced lunch, resides in a foster home, or receives any other kind of federal assistance is eligible for a fee waiver for the SAT. Students are only given two fee waivers for the SAT test (one for junior year and one for senior year.) Fee waivers can also be picked up in the Student Services Department, but these fee waivers do not cover late fees. Please feel free to contact the Student Services Department with any questions. Information on standard fees is available at the College Board's SAT website.

DAY OF THE TEST: Make sure to bring your admission ticket, photo ID, pencils, calculator, and a snack the morning of the test. If you do not have your admission ticket and photo ID, you will not be admitted to take the SAT. Click here for more information from the College Board.

MORE INFORMATION: If you have questions, please see the instructions located in Student Services, or talk to your school counselor.

Juniors and seniors can take the ACT. Many colleges use ACT scores as part of their admissions process.

HOW TO REGISTER: You can register for the ACT online. This site includes testing and registration dates, as well as fee information. NOTE: You must upload a photo to the website to be admitted to the test.

FEES: The ACT also provides fee waivers to students who meet the eligibility requirements, which include free and reduced lunch, residing in a foster home, or 21st Century Scholars. Remember you are only able to receive two waivers total, one each school year. Funds are limited, however, and once they have been exhausted, requests for waivers will be denied. More information is available on the ACT website

DAY OF THE TEST: Make sure to BE ON TIME and bring your admission ticket, photo ID, pencils, calculator (please review ACT rules for which calculators are allowed), and a snack the morning of the test. If you do not have your admission ticket and photo ID, or if you are late, you will not be admitted to take the SAT. Click here for a test day checklist from ACT.

MORE INFORMATION: If you have questions, please talk to your school counselor.
