Marion High School earns accreditation as a Cambridge International School

Marion Community Schools is pleased to announce that Marion High School is now a Cambridge International school.

Backed by the University of Cambridge, one of the oldest and most well-respected universities in the world, Cambridge International Education has approved Marion High School to offer the Cambridge International AS/A Level and IGCSE curricula. This opportunity is unique in Grant County and rare in the state of Indiana. Marion High School is proud to offer this new option to its students!

Cambridge curricula will allow MHS to consider dozens of new courses. Cambridge courses allow students to study a broad range of subjects, but also allow for specialization and in-depth learning. Marion educators will get training and support from Cambridge as this new program is implemented.

“We are excited to be joining the Cambridge International network,” Marion Community Schools Superintendent Stephanie Lockwood said. “We are proud to be the first school in our region to offer students the opportunity to earn these internationally recognized certifications. It is yet another distinction that our schools, our families, and our community can be proud of.”

Students will be able to leverage their Cambridge International AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Level or A (Advanced) Level certifications to open doors beyond high school. Thousands of learners gain placements at leading universities with the AS & A Levels every year. Cambridge calls them a “passport to success”, and now MHS students will have this prestigious opportunity available to them!

And the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) can help prepare younger students to succeed in the AS/A curriculum, and it can also stand alone as a high-quality certification. The Cambridge IGCSE is truly international, and it gives students more options than any other international qualification. Universities and employers around the world see the IGCSE as evidence of academic ability.

Marion Community Schools is excited to start planning for the launch of our Cambridge International options, and to share more about the exciting new opportunities this will provide to our students in the coming weeks.

“What an outstanding way to show the world how great our schools and our students are,” Marion High School Principal Javon said. “This new opportunity for Marion students gives a whole new meaning to Giant Pride!”

Marion High School already offers dozens of advanced college credits, including the Indiana College Core, a block of 30 general education credits transferable to any state college and many private colleges in Indiana, and the school is also a member of the Rural Early College Network. Our latest certification as a Cambridge International school will help us reach even more students with these opportunities and more.

The University of Cambridge formed its “Local Examinations Syndicate” more than 160 years ago, aiming to raise standards in education. The Local Examinations program was created to administer Cambridge exams to students beyond the university’s own degree programs. Today, Cambridge International Education is the largest provider of international education programs and qualifications for students 5 to 19 years old. Schools who wish to join this global network must pass an inspection and authorization process to gain permission to utilize Cambridge curricula and certifications.

Cambridge University Press & Assessments provides world-leading academic research, learning, and assessment globally, backed by the first-class teaching and research departments of the University of Cambridge.
