MHS students selected for prestigious all-state ensembles

Four Marion High School musicians have been selected for prestigious all-state honor ensembles at the Indiana Music Educators Association’s upcoming annual conference.

For the second year in a row, Marion High School will have two representatives in the IMEA All-State Percussion Ensemble. This ensemble has a highly competitive audition process, in which students must record a video of their audition and are then adjudicated and selected by a committee. Caleb Huff, senior, will be performing with this ensemble for a fourth straight year, becoming Marion High School’s first four-year member of any all-state ensemble. Madelynn Boogar, a sophomore, will be performing with this ensemble for a second straight year.

In addition, MHS seniors Ethan Boogar and Sarah Terhune have been selected to perform with the IMEA Honor Concert Band. They have both been members of the IBA All-District Honor Band and the Grant County High School Honor Band throughout their careers. They were nominated by MHS Director of Bands Joshua Huff, and were then selected by a committee considering nominations from around the state.

These honor ensembles are a great opportunity and give students a chance to learn and grow as musicians. To be selected for these honors, students are nominated by their band director, and nominations are then evaluated based on several criteria to select members of these talented groups from across the state. Selected musicians have been notified and were tasked with practicing the musical selections in preparation for the upcoming performances.

The IMEA conference is set for Jan. 16-18. Times for specific group performances may be available closer to that time.

These MHS students join several other MCS students whose honor ensemble selections have already been announced and will also perform at the IMEA conference:

Marion’s outstanding representation during this music-filled weekend is a testament to the hard work and dedication our students display every day in the classroom, and to the excellence, skill, and professionalism that our music educators bring to their work all year round.

We are proud of all of these Marion Giants!
