Congratulations to the Marion High School Marching Giants, who earned a Gold Rating with Distinction in Visual Performance at last weekend’s ISSMA Summer Showcase competition!
The community has one final opportunity to watch this year’s show, “Moondance”, at halftime of the home football game on Friday, Aug. 30, at Dick Lootens Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Giants have found much success marching band season. They made a school-record fourth-straight appearance in the Sweet Sixteen finals at State Fair Band Day on Aug. 2, , the culminating competition of the CITSA circuit, and now have added Gold at the ISSMA Summer Showcase.
This award sets them on the path to ISSMA’s highest honor — the All Music Award — for a fifth consecutive year. The All Music Award takes into consideration several ISSMA events throughout the school year: the marching band Summer Showcase; Solo & Ensemble Contest; Jazz Organizational Contest; and Concert Organizational Contest.
The Marion High School band program’s other ensembles are already hard at work, aiming for high marks in all competitions, but even more so, growth and opportunity for all of their young musicians!
The community’s first opportunity to hear from other MHS ensembles will be the fall band concert set for Oct. 15 at the Walton Performing Arts Center — which will also feature a trunk or treat event, fun for the whole family! Mark your calendars to come out and support the MHS band program.
